Children

I love to photograph people, and in particular, I enjoy photographing children. Before having children of my own, I rarely made portraits of anyone other than my lovely M. But having a little baby around a photographer’s house invariably leads to a lot of baby photos. It’s simple math really. Those first baby photographs led me to seek out and photograph older kids, which eventually led to editorial portraiture for publications, corporate headshots and stock imagery, a wedding or two, and so on. At some point, I began to make artful portraits that pushed the boundaries of what I thought I could create, and by the time my youngest daughter was born I had gotten my feet wet in portrait photography and had found that, surprisingly, it is actually my favorite type of photography.

I have met with a good bit of success, at least by my judgment, with my portrait work. My portraiture has appeared on book and magazine covers, numerous publications large and small have included my work, and my portraiture has hung on gallery walls here in the U.S. and overseas.

Here on my website I have chosen to share a selection of children’s portraiture. Many of these images are of my own girls; currently ages 5, 11 and 21, photographed (repeatedly!) by their proud father.

I offer a highly personalized, boutique portrait photography experience here in the Washington DC metro area. Please download my pdf brochure for full details and pricing information.
